MARKET COMMENTARY

Indian benchmark indices are likely to open higher on Tuesday, tracking firm cues from Nifty futures on the Singapore Stock Exchange and positive trend across global peers. Markets across Asia were trading higher after the Wall Street ended green in overnight trade, led by gains in telecom stocks. Back home, bullish trend in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for November delivery, which were trading at 10,350.00, up by 35 points or 0.34 per cent, at 10:59 AM Singapore time, also signaled a positive start for local bourses. On the economy front, the government has raised Rs 14,500 crore from Bharat-22 exchange traded fund (ETF) as the new fund offer of (NFO) was subscribed four times. The government has granted infrastructure status to the logistics sector, a move that would propel investment in the sector. On the corporate front, shares of Quess Corp will remain in focus after it acquired Tata Business Support Services (TBSS) for Rs 153 crore. Among others, Infibeam will also see some movement after media report suggested that the company is in talks with Prem Watsa’s Fairfax Financial Holdings to sell a minority stake.

On Monday, the Indian benchmarks ended marginally higher in lackluster trade, tracking weak cues from Asian peers, as gain in realty and metal stocks were offset by loss across IT and Teck space. The investors also took some breather after strong rally on Friday after Moody's upgraded India's sovereign rating to Stable. The negativity in the market was also injected amid uncertainty over US tax reform. On the sectoral front, realty and metal stocks emerged as top gainers on BSE, rising as much as 2.22 per cent and 1.33 per cent, respectively. The 30-share benchmark index closed at 33359.9, up by 17.1 points or by 0.05 per cent, and the NSE Nifty ended at 10298.75 up by 15.15 points or by 0.15 per cent.

Top traded volumes on NSE Nifty were ICICI Bank Ltd. 13606336.00, State Bank of India 13507662.00, YES Bank Ltd. 9652806.00, ITC Ltd. 7916268.00, Vedanta Ltd. 6860825.00.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 142.02 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 27899.65 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 109894 with a total turnover of Rs. 9432.22 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 603794 with a total turnover of Rs. 43214.83 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 3186270 with a total turnover of Rs. 283548.00 Crore and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 435358 with a total turnover of Rs. 33128.09 Crore.

As on November 20, 2017 the FIIs turned as net buyer in equity segment, but turned net seller in debt market. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 6832.46 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 2345.92 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 5396.08 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 2428.82 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 1436.38 Crore and Rs. -82.90.
