MARKET COMMENTARY

The Indian benchmark indices are likely to open higher amid positive global sentiments on the back of a potential trade truce between the US and China. Asian share markets rose on Wednesday as investors hoped that the Federal Reserve would follow the lead of the European Central Bank and open the door to future rate cuts at its policy meeting later in the day. On Wall Street, indices surged during the overnight trade and touched a record high on hopes of progress in Sino-US trade dialogues. US and China are rekindling trade talks ahead of a meeting next week between Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, cheering financial markets with hope that an escalating trade war between the two countries would abate. Back home, bullish trends in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for June delivery, which were trading at 11,758.00 up by 46.00 points or 0.39 per cent, at 10:52 AM, Singapore Time, also indicated a positive start for local bourses. On the macro front, the Reserve Bank of India said it will infuse Rs 12,500 crore of liquidity into the system through purchase of government bonds. The Central bank would purchase five government bonds under open market operations (OMOs) on June 20. On the corporate front, Sundaram Multi Pap Limited has received BB+ (Stable) credit rating from Brickwork Ratings India Private Limited. The 30-share index settled at 39046.34 up by 85.55 points or by 0.22 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 11691.5 up by 19.35 points or by 0.17 per cent.

On NSE, total number of shares traded was 152.59 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 29279.28 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 329865 with a total turnover of Rs. 24115.11 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 840715 with a total turnover of Rs. 46207.37 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 15179883 with a total turnover of Rs. 1059526.92 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 813222 with a total turnover of Rs. 44482.62 Crore.

As on June 18, 2019 the FIIs stood a net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 4686.84 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 1982.80 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 5009.62 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 2190.34 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. -322.78 Crore and Rs. -207.54.
