MARKET COMMENTARY

(Sep-19-2017 08:32)
Indian benchmark indices are likely to open flat with negative bias on Tuesday, tracking bearish cues from Nifty futures on the Singapore Stock Exchange, undermining firm global cues. Markets across Asia were trading higher as investors awaited clues from the Federal Reserve on US monetary policy. The Federal Open Market Committee will begin a two-day policy meeting today to take a call on unwinding of the balance sheet and tweaking of interest rates. In the overnight trade, the Wall Street continued gaining momentum and settled at record high as rise in US Treasury yields boosted financial shares. Back home, bearish trend in the SGX Nifty Index Futures for September delivery, which were trading at 10,164.00, down by 15.00 points or 0.15 per cent, at 10:50 AM Singapore time, also signaled a negative opening for local bourses. On the economy front, capital markets regulator Sebi has allowed real estate investment trusts (REITs) and infrastructure investment trusts (InvITs) to raise capital by issuing debt securities. In a bid to curb potential manipulation, the Bombay Stock Exchange has announced that it would charge fee from members whose order-to-trade ratio would be high and request count is over 10 lakh a day in the equity segment. On the corporate front, InterGlobe Aviation will remain in focus after the company raised Rs 3,790 crore from stake sale. Among others, index heavyweight Bharti Airtel will also see some movement after the telecom major unveiled plan to spend more than Rs 32,000 crore in the next two financial years to expand its network.

The Indian equity benchmarks ended higher in broad-based rally on Monday, tracking firm cues from Asian peers, amid sustained buying by retail and foreign investors. The investors shrugged-off geopolitical concerns caused by a fresh missile launch by North Korea and shifted focus to economic events lined up this week.
